Wonder what your real unemployment figure looks like. You now have a higher % than us, even though you calculate it differently.

The basic concepts involved in identifying the employed and unemployed are quite simple: People with jobs are employed. People who are jobless, looking for jobs, and available for work are unemployed. People who are neither employed nor unemployed are not in the labor force. details there. My state currently has the highest rate in the country, 12.9% Mainly because we are so auto-based. |

My province is apparently an anomaly. Unemployment is down, home prices are still on the rise. Lol.

And do they really measure this with interviews? My guess is some people say they have work just because they're ashamed.
Here you need to apply for unemployment benefits as soon as you lose your job. You can also get support by the state when your income is below welfare level (I think it's around 350 euro a month plus rent and heating). If I'm not mistaken we simply measure who gets support in any way minus those who applied for training and there you go. 12.9% is low though for being the highest number, I would expect some southern states to have more. West Germany currently has 6.9% and East Germany 13.3%. The highest number is 14.2% in Berlin, the lowest 4.7% in Bavaria.. brb, rebuilding the wall. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbeitslosenstatistik#Deutschland |

I wonder what the real number is of people unemployed (u-6) and people not in the work force who are of age.
Maybe 20-25%? Higher? How many people actually work? IIRC the number is around 120 million, but then you have to throw the kids (about 80 million) out of the non-working population. Your left with roughly 100 million adults who don't work. This doesn't account for retirees, housewives, disabled, etc. No wonder we've become a leech**** nation. |
