You know, there’s a lot of great things I’d like to say about Darkfall. Like, how they’re setting a new precedent for patch releases and content upgrades. How they’re the premiere competitor for any MMO company releasing patches. How they’re more of a true MMO than any of the current crop of Disneyland games overwhelming the market. Unfortunately, I can’t. The fact is, no one really cares what Darkfall’s up to. It doesn’t matter that they’re introducing systems into their games the likes of whi… More

You know, when we’re playing a game, a lot of times we take little details for granted. I know that I’m guilty of that, instead focusing on issues like PvP, questing, spells, and the rest of the store front systems we’re so used to discussing. Today, I’d like to take a moment and look at some of the little details I’ve really appreciated in games. The thing that got me thinking about this was the latest episode of the MMO Fo’ Show. The hosts, Syp and Snafzg, decided to do a retrospective on Wo… More

Continued from my last blog... Character Advancement Skill Progression The biggest most important part of how your character progresses in the game will be through their skills. Darkfall has a variety of them and, rather than leveling and putting points in skills, your character's skills increase as they are used. One thing that's neat about this is that there are skills for EVERYTHING so anything you do, be it running, sprinting, sitting, mining, etc. you are progressing your character. On … More

I started following Darkfall Online back when you were a mere twinkle in your mother's eye (or Summer 2003, whatever you prefer). Reading about it got me real excited about MMOs after having just played and finally given up on Shadowbane. Sandbox world, FPS combat, no lame leveling, what more could I want? Since then, my excitement diminished greatly as I realized the game was far from finished. I followed the news updates, but didn't participate much in the community and just patiently … More

I have to say, I find it somewhat amusing that so many people are coming out in support of Darkfall all the sudden. I mean, that's good for them and all, and certainly good for the game, but it makes apparent the changing nature of people's interests. When Darkfall released it's gameplay video touting "actual gameplay footage" so many criticisms poured over the web, it was hard to find anything positive to be said about it. It's a demonstration of how the pack mentality pervades when market cond… More

The majority of the Gameriot community looks at Darkfall Online with "mild to medium" levels of anticipation. I believe, however, that there are enough people that don't truly understand what DF is and why it has created a level of buzz amongst MMORPG PvP enthusiasts unparalleled by any other game EVER. This should be a good read whether or not you know anything about Darkfall. Before we get into it, lets take a look at a few past landmark fantasy… More

Everyone can agree that Aventurine has an uncanny ability to make promises to their fan-base that literally force people to drool over various concepts. Another agreement that people are literally forced to believe is that Aventurine's PR (or Public Relations), are about as useful as a supermodel in a sumo-wrestling match. (Aside from grabbing attention.)
"Dictionary.com
describes public relations as the art, technique or profession of
promoting such goodwill, that is exactly … More

Tasos delves into some of the finer areas of Darkfall gameplay, mainly, economics. Obviously a controversial topic if you decide to visit the DFO website lately, however, lets take a look on some of the more important issues of economics in terms of a war-time MMO.
How can a company be so foolish to rely on players to ensure that an economy remains running? I am sorry to say that if that idea is pushed with even the Beta, there won't be a group/guild/clan, that is able to keep their players… More

Darkfall Online, the heralded "Savior" of the Hardcore PvP genre. A game that has had it's share of 'nay-sayers' since day one, so very long ago. Hundreds of people, such as myself manage to suck up every portion of information that Aventurine decides to release to the public, and, obviously, thirst for more. Can a game truly manage to allow a player to overcome the odds due to pure skill? I believe so, and I believe Darkfall is on the fast track to becoming the first N-G MMO to do so.… More
