The gaming business may have seen a bit of a downturn this year but there are certain money makers that are tried and true successes. Mainly anything with "Wii" in it and Modern Warfare; these are apparently keys to big business when it comes to software sales. NPD hasn't released PC software sales yet for a year to date total plus they don't really track digital sales anyhow so the PC market is pretty hard to track minus data we get from publishers. They do however track console game sales and… More

I don't detest the Wii. I know I give it a lot of slack thanks to the overpriced accessories, less than stellar games and overall "casual feel" to the console. The reality is I will always love Nintendo, Mario, Link, Samus, and even Little Mac. But outside of the core titles there just isn't a lot of appeal for me in the form of Nintendo's latest hardware offering. This week things changed just a little bit and I actually have a renewed interest in the system. I borrowed my dad's Wii with t… More

I know a lot of you out there are dying to pick up a Nintendo Wii. Being nickel and dimed for accessories upon accessories and playing a bunch of shovelware titles is everyone's gaming dream. There is good news then! It seems the Wii may be heading towards a price drop. A weekly ad from Toys 'R'Us via Kotaku notes that at the start of October the Wii may be making the move to $199.99. These flyers are the new price cut leaky faucet it seems as the PS3 and Xbox 360 Elite $299.99 were also first… More

Nintendo is finally caving to the power of the Dark Side and the latest Wii revision is proof of their support for multiculturalism and racial harmony. They are now caving to pressures from their rivals Sony and Microsoft who have both "gone black" in their attempts at being edgy in the latest generation of consoles. It is time to level the playing field in the white and black console market. This should surely open the Wii-market to all sorts of folks who are "consolists" and refuse to purchas… More

Leave it to Nintendo to continue down the path of sissification. The latest news from team Nintendo is confirmation of a new a "demo mode" that will, get this, play the damn game for you. No kidding. You just sit back and relax and let the game do the work for you. Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to USA Today that the Super Mario Brothers Wii game (as seen here) will be the first title from Nintendo to offer this "feature". Nintendo filled a patent earlier this year for said feature which allow pl… More

Most of the press conferences at E3 2009 are now a thing of the past and it is time to take a look and what worked, what didn't, who won and and who slipped up. I did this last year as well if you want to see those results. These are your E3 winners and losers. The Biggest Announcement I have to go with the announcement of Final Fantasy 14. This shocked pretty much everyone at the show and it was one of the few things that didn't leak out in advance. Square-Enix has stated it may eventually co… More

Rumors persist that we will see the debut of a new Mario game via Nintendo's conference at E3. Stay tuned for live updates as the show progresses. Microsoft's conference from yesterday can be seen here. Cammie Dunneway on stage rambling about NPD numbers and the growth of games. Today Nintendo is apparently going to bring innovation and surprises. (uh huh...) Mario shown on the video screen. Over 200 Mario related titles and they are showing a montage of our favorite Italian plumber. They … More

This is part one of my four part series leading up to the Electronics Entertainment Expo, aka E3. I'll be covering the big three consoles; Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony and of course the PC as well. We are going to take a look at potential announcements, games that may be shown off and expectations when it comes to the four platforms. No mas Nintendo, no mas...
Nintendo had a rough E3 last year. Their conference was lame at best. I easily rated it the worst out of the big three in my E3 wrap u… More

The "stupid video game news of the day" moniker was earned by PETA today over their complaints of an upcoming Take-Two video game. Take-Two is working on a circus-based Nintendo Wii game with licensing ties to the Ringling Brothers circus show according to Joystiq. Over on the PETA site they have taken issue with this and are dead set on halting production on this potentially-lame waggle based video game. PETA states: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is looking to take its cruelty t… More

The Nintendo Wii has long worn out its welcome with me. The motion controller, while slightly innovative, generally has led to a bunch of waggle-inducing games where motions are just tacked on to make use of the Wii Remote and add little value to games. It seems some folks at Sony and Microsoft may be buying into the Wii-hype and the thinking that motion controls are the key to the Wii's success. They aren't, but more on that later. Rumors persist… More

It seems all is definitely not equal in the world of console gaming. We all have our preferences when it comes to consoles, personally having them, I like being able to judge them based on the hardware and games and not blind fanboyism. Edge recently took some time analyzing review scores via EEDAR which is similar to Metacritic and Gamerankings. The covered the 360, the PS3 and the Wii in an attempt to put some sort of calculations behind the "who has the better games" statement. I don't thin… More
