It may not be God of War III but Madden 10 and a price cut could be a hell of a 1-2 punch.
It was the news that never came at this year's E3. Everyone who is interested in picking up Sony's black monolith waited anxiously to no avail. Sony delivered on the software front, certainly, but the lack of a price cut was one of the few complaints we had about their conference.
The good news is the latest rumors have the pigskin holiday, aka Madden day, aka take the week off of work, possibly bringi… More
Most of the press conferences at E3 2009 are now a thing of the past and it is time to take a look and what worked, what didn't, who won and and who slipped up. I did this last year as well if you want to see those results. These are your E3 winners and losers.
The Biggest Announcement
I have to go with the announcement of Final Fantasy 14. This shocked pretty much everyone at the show and it was one of the few things that didn't leak out in advance. Square-Enix has stated it may eventually co… More
I've had some requests of people wanted to see this action and they finally released some internal developer walkthroughs for media consumption. As I mentioned the other day this is sort of a Shenmue meets a choose your own adventure book set within the real world during some serial killer rampaging around town it seems. You can check part one of three below and further down for the rest of the videos.
I think a lot of people have assumed the game footage they have seen so far is all cinematics… More
"No whammies, no whammies, bring on God of War 3!" Yes it is time for Sony's press conference at E3 2009. Don't forget about Nintendo's from earlier today and Microsoft's from yesterday.
Stay tuned for updates. Sony has a hell of a show from Microsoft to topple. Seems to be a slight delay so far. Not sure what the deal is. Be sure to catch up on my hopes and expectations for the Sony show here.
And we are off... video montage of some games. Red Dead, Ratchet, Prototype, Brutal Legend, Arkha… More
This is part three of four of my Pre-E3 series highlighting next week's E3. Nintendo and Microsoft were already discussed leaving the granddaddy of them all, the PC, for this weekend. I will be covering Sony's plans for the next year, E3 expectations and what we can hope to see at the show.
Last year I felt Sony had the best showing at E3 even though Microsoft stole the show with their Final Fantasy 13 announcement. Sony brought better games and like Kotaku has shown they pretty much lived up … More
I was really hyped up to play the Final Fantasy 13 demo when it came with the Advent Children Blu-ray release here in the states, much like it did in Japan recently selling like hot cakes.
Unfortunately for us the good news pretty much stops there. Japan, like usual, gets the goodies while we get the Gunblade-sized shaft here in North America. Yoshinori Kitase, producer on FF13, told Video Gamer that the demo will not be coming to the states on Blu-ray and in fact there are no definite plans f… More
The Nintendo Wii has long worn out its welcome with me. The motion controller, while slightly innovative, generally has led to a bunch of waggle-inducing games where motions are just tacked on to make use of the Wii Remote and add little value to games.
It seems some folks at Sony and Microsoft may be buying into the Wii-hype and the thinking that motion controls are the key to the Wii's success. They aren't, but more on that later. Rumors persist… More
It seems all is definitely not equal in the world of console gaming. We all have our preferences when it comes to consoles, personally having them, I like being able to judge them based on the hardware and games and not blind fanboyism.
Edge recently took some time analyzing review scores via EEDAR which is similar to Metacritic and Gamerankings. The covered the 360, the PS3 and the Wii in an attempt to put some sort of calculations behind the "who has the better games" statement.
I took a bit of time away from reviewing this because I wanted to make sure I was over the "newness" factor and that I could look back on the game accurately and give it a fair shake. This will be plot-spoiler free for the most part.
This isn't your typical Resident Evil game. It is twice as far from the series' roots than RE4 was. If you like the direction that game was heading then there is a good chance you will like this one. If you are expecting a return to the survival horrors roots and… More
This game looks like this year's Braid if you ask me. Kind of an off-beat, small downloadable game that is going to get rave reviews and be a commercial success. Fat Princess is being developed by Titan Studios. I didn't really know a whole lot about gameplay other than the basic, "feed the other team's princess so she stays fat and can't escape". What better premise is there than that?
Turns out there is a ton of depth to the game. You can start by watching the first dev commentary above, p… More
Ah yes but there is a catch. Unless you preordered via those folks at Gamestop you aren't going to be able to download it in North America. The good news is it is pretty easy to work around this restriction thanks to our European friends who get the demo with zero strings attached today.
How easy it is? Simple, just sign up for European PS3 account (quick tutorial here). They are pretty easy to fake as it doesn't really verify your info or address and you can obviously do it in English … More
I was prepared for the worst with this review but I think Yahtzee actually likes it.

The blank wall/cartoon ***** line is pretty top flight as well. He doesn't really bash on the game but it doesn't get the Portal/Orange Box lube job either. LBP isn't even covered until 1:20 in the review. Hell you spend time even sta… More
So there is this "I Am Alive" game coming to PC, 360 and PS3. You may remember this snazzy trailer from E3 last year which previewing some sharp cutscenes but offered little in the way of gameplay.
Ubisoft is bringing this modern day survival title to a gaming platform near you and it is now dated for March. March? WTF? We don't even know anything about it other than what we can gather from the trailer. It is apparently modern day and you are trying to survive a post-earthquake ravaged … More
Many of you know I am not the biggest fan of MMOs. Considering my work environment that may be somewhat of a surprise I know. This upcoming DC Universe Online MMO has definitely perked my interest since E3 of last year. I love comics and I love video games; it should be only natural right? Well I also have a disdain for "pay to play" and I am not a big fan of single games being massive time sinks. So I am a bit apprehensive.Â
Sad news out of Reuters today via the Guardian.co.uk. Don't expect Final Fantasy 13 in the states this year.Â
I could end with that information but if I didn't ***** and moan a bit what fun would that be? The news via Reuters comes from Square Enix President Yoichi Wada. In a financial analysis today they noted that the Japanese version should ship in this calender year thus something they can look forward to profit wise.Â
