20 year old Gaspar Machado, known by his Online peers as "Hypno", recently won the Play.com Unreal Tournament 3 1v1 competition and earned himself 20,000 Euros ~ $30,000. More than that, he obtained his first ever LAN title after years of solid top 8 finishes at multiple ESWC and WCG's. And to top both those accomplishments, he brought home a major championship to his home country of Portugal, one which has never seen a major title since the inception of competitive gaming.
The Valve express continues to pick up Steam, pun intended, as Epic Games joins the already massive library of games being offered on the Steam platform. Id Software, Rockstar, Activision, Atari, Eidos and many more are already hosted and available for purchase over Steam. Now Epic Games will be bringing the Unreal Tournament games to boot.

Tomorrow, Play.com will host the UT3 National Championship live at Wembley Stadium. This huge event will draw in Europe's top UT3 duelers and iCTF teams for this grand two-day event.

Yesterday, Epic released its 1.2 patch for Unreal Tournament 3. Covering just about everything from menus to gameplay to AI to sound, the update definitely fixes many of the problem areas, but still leaves many others.

This looks like a total riot. The customization ability of the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has been one of its key selling points; user generated content.
This is the first mod for the PS3 version that has really impressed me. The detailed physics, the authentic looking legos, all while death matching with your enemies. Pretty impressive, props to folks over at Gameblews, and you can download the mod here and also entertain yourself with another video.
The customization mutator project for the Unreal Tournament 3 game title, CustomUT, was suspended a few weeks ago to the dismay of the UT3 community after its main developer, Lotus, decided to quit working on it. However, a Russian coder by the nickname Faust has decided to pick up where Lotus left off, changing the mutator's name from CustomUT to UTComp3.

Team EG manager Alex Garfield's decision to pickup an Unreal Tournament III squad has left many members in the competitive gaming and deathmatch scene scratching their heads. According to VoodooExtreme, the game's PC sales have been "abysmal", selling only roughly 30,000 copies in November, leaving the game 19th on the list for the month.

This past week saw the hosting of one of the very first few Unreal Tournament 3 tournaments by the 50 Calibre organization. As expected, there was a great turn out with the brackets filled with several talented players, surprisingly including the Championship Gaming Series' Chicago Chimera General Manager Brian "destrukt" Flander, a former professional gamer himself before becoming a GM. As with any tournament, there were a few no-shows, but all in all the tournament went smoothly.
So earlier this week the guys over at the 50 Calibre gaming organization announced that they would be holding their very own Unreal Tournament 3 tournament. At this point, you might be wondering what the big deal here is. Well, the Unreal Tournament 3 demo just came out -- October 12th to be exact -- so this can be considered to be one of the first Unreal Tournament 3 tournaments, not just in North America, but in the world.
