This could be the best music-game based news since Bobby Kotick promised they would would never make another Guitar Hero game! We that isn't all that accurate but this still pretty cool regardless. The Beatles Rock Band launched recently and if the over exposure of "Come Together" hasn't been testament to that fact you have probably been far away from a TV the past few weeks. At a recent press event at Abbey Road studios before the launch of the game a handful of artists were together recordi… More

It was first reported yesterday that Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos informed the masses that there will not be a new Rock Band game in 2009 ditching the previous model of a new one per year; the standard for big two music franchises. Instead they planned on focusing on the Beatles game and make sure it was Army ready to be it all it could be. MTV Multiplayer wanted to get to the bottom of the story as their parent company MTV publishes the game and they found out when the rest of us news reading f… More

I am still drumming and strumming away on the latest editions of the big two music games, Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour. I've bought maybe 9-10 tracks so far between the two, nothing too expensive. There was more news out of the Spike VGA's last night regarding upcoming albums. The bad news is I probably have to spend $15-20 come March. The good news? It will be on Pearl Jam's 'Ten' album which is coming to the Rock Band platform. A genre defining, classic album from Eddie Ved… More

Line of the week: " and switching between the buttons and the slider without looking is so fiddly that I forgot how many fingers I own and ruined my future masturbation prospects" (embed not working? click here) Personally I really enjoy Guitar Hero World Tour. The game itself isn't as good Rock Band 2 at least when it comes to menus and interface. However Rock Band 2 does that have annoying feature of playing songs over and over in career mode and random songs; which I hate. And Guitar H… More

If you missed the post I updated last week, you may not know that the Beatles music catalog is coming to a video game system near you thanks to Harmonix and MTV. What we did know were the hopes that Beatles tracks would eventually make their way in to Rock Band. The bad news, they won't. Reuters has confirmed that none of their songs will be in Rock band and that if you want your slice of Beatles pie you need to buy their upcoming stand-alone music game next holiday season.  This is certainl… More

*update* Apparently the Beatles/Harmonix collaboration will be its own stand alone game, separate from the Rock Band platform. No word if any Beatles tracks will make the transition over to Rock Band. They are shooting for music hardware compatibility with Rock Band however. Hrm, not really sure if I am a fan of this idea. I would be more tempted to buy Beatles tracks in RB2 than I would a solo game. It is days like these I am glad I went with both of the current big two music game titl… More

Word on the street is that Rock Band is going country. CMT (Country Music Television for those who don't give a damn about country like me) apparently announced it at some point on the tube. When posted on the forums a Harmonix developer confirmed the news stating: "Furthermore, this thread blows my mind. With so many genres represented in Rock Band already, why would the addition of Country be such a huge shock? We'll have Country in RB sooner or later" Oh boy! I am so excited I can hardly … More

AC/DC is ready to shake you all night long courtesy of mega retailer Walmart (already listed on their website). You Rock Band owners can get ready to enjoy an AC/DC track pack which is exclusive to the folks at Walmart. $40 will nab you this extra Rock Band (2) content with 18 songs from AC/DC's "Live at Donington" performance.  At $40 (30 for PS2) this breaks down to $2.22 a song, a bit more than the typical $1.99 per single or $5.49 per 3-song track pack. Is it a good value? I guess tha… More

http://digg.com/pc_games/Rock_Band_2_or_Guitar_Hero_World_TourDigg it!This is a follow-up to a blog I wrote some time ago here at Gameriot on the battle of plastic musical band games. Guitar Hero World Tour is due out next month and Rock Band 2 hit the 360 this past week. The full bundle for RB2 won't be out till next month when it comes out for the PS3 as well. With both games heading in to the home stretch it is time to see how they both stack up. Two music sets clogging up your living ro… More

This past Sunday was rock out with your jock day in the gaming world. Rock Band 2 hit stores yesterday and it is apparently a pretty stellar game. The reviews are coming in from around the web and there are some quality gameplay videos over at Gametrailers to check out. Here is the new Guns and Roses song, Shacklers Revenge: Not quite sure what I think of that song yet. Axel wailing out some vocals is always a bonus but I am not really feeling the chorus. There are a few reminders. On… More

I have some morning news for you guys to catch up on; goodies from the weekend and early this week. Read on to soak up some gaming knowledge for your melons. Rumors are coming out of Blizzard that Diablo 3 may come out before Starcraft 2. Here is the quote: "[Starcraft 2] is still being worked on, but only by a minuscule amount of people compared to what [Blizzard] put on the Diablo 3 team." I think that can be taken either way, maybe SC2 is almost done so it requires less of a team to wr… More

News leaked out yesterday that Rock Band 2 made it in to a few gamer's homes. Harmonix actually delivers a "congratulations" for getting a hold of the game early when you boot it up. Today the bad news comes in pairs. The game is in stores now, but you cant have it. On top of that it seems MTV is planning a reality show based on the popular game series. You read that right, a Rock Band 2 reality show. Like we don't have plenty of ****ty reality TV already flowing into our televisions. … More

Harmonix sneaked out a Rock Band update today which tweaks a few gameplay matters and also includes the often talked about track converter feature. This conversion add-on will allow users to export Rock Band songs to their hard drive taking up 1.5GB of space and make them playable in Rock Band 2 minus the lame ass disc swapping. The "service" will run $5 to cover the additional licensing fees of having the music play on another game, at least that is what I suspect. It could just be a quic… More

More morning news coming your way, much of it thanks to the GC 2008! This game is going to kick ass, Killzone 2. Check out the multiplayer: Sims 3 is set for a February 20th release date and continued domination of the sales charts. I may check this out mainly for the Sim Town aspect that is a first in the series. There is a ton more info at that link for the EA GC 2008 presentation. MTV Multiplayer has details on how porting songs from Rock Band 1 to Rock Band 2 will work. Apparently you … More
