There has been no change to premade vs premade in 2.4, the thread you cited was from 07'.

A decent read. I think the learning curve on 5v5 is far steeper than the other brackets. Games seem far more chaotic and because of that chaos it is difficult to practice fundamentals as one is able to on 2v2 or 3v3. I like to play 5v5 but am well aware that my play is far more erratic and random. Then again I have far less experience in 5v5.
It does over all seem less fun to me, but i think that comes from the fact that I DO have a tough time following all that is going on.
