In the latest push they introduced new graphics, it now look jaw dropping... kindof like LOTRO. Some things are obviously still bugged but it looks much better.
When you are fighting 100+ vs 100+ at the keep you gona set everything to minimum anyway, so really who cares?
Other stuff:
Clan supposed to be able to level up and open abilities like guild banner that can be carried. Similar to Lineage ideas for clans, this is a VERY good idea, one of the things I liked about L2.
You can literally pvp/rvr 5 mins after you start the game(might not be the best idea but you can).
You can level through killing people.. and loot items from them(not from inventory, just random items are created).
Both sides have classes mirrored, classes are not identical but they have simillar mechanics. This should help with RvR balance. Bright Wizard has simillar mechanics to the Sorceress, Zealot to the Runepriest etc
Cities can be leveled up and then deleveled when enemy comes and ganks your ****
Leveling cities opens up new content, so imagine your enemy opens up a new dungeon and before they can really farm it you come in, take the city and delevel it back (you can even farm their dungeon for a bit) this also helps you level your own city, can you see whine potential here? 
RvR advancement is simillar to DAOC, you get Renown ranks that give you points that you can spend on boostin stats. It also allows you to equip higher ranked PvP armor(the very best is gotten from the enemy Kings)
They are actually testing city capture in beta.. I know its crazy.. testing pvp objectives before game release!

They will never implement decent world pvp system. Too many pve people will ***** and whine. For world pvp to be good you need to have ability actually hurt other faction, this will never happen in wow. Also people will not pvp just for fun, you need ability to lock enemy instance (want to do coilfang? tough **** you can't your faction does not have control), raid Illidan? no you can't this week you hdo not have control of the zone..
For rated BGs I think AB is easier to balance.

AOC never lifted NDA, they lied to everyone.. and to everyone in beta it was 100% clear that:
1. There is no content at max level
2. PvP system is non-existant
3. Siege system was never tested
WAR is completely different.
1. Tons fo content at max level (that was tested! omg)
2. RvR/pvp is an integral part of the game from level 1
3. Sieges been in testing for good 10 month+ and they WORK
AOC was all hype, WAR is hype + substance. This game is awesome.
