What makes an RPG?

For me, it's important to have control of an entire party. Switching roles and forming strategies based on a whole roster of skills gives a game a lot of play and replay value in my mind.

I think Lolita is my favorite novel. I adore A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, but that's honestly closer to memoir than fiction. I'm also really into The Sandman series by Gaiman, of course. Do you suppose it's fairly natural for gamers to be readers?
